Use Godly Wisdom to Overcome Distractions

What are distractions? They can be defined in many ways, but my favorite definition is as follows: a thing that prevents someone from giving full attention to something else. The enemy will use anything and anyone to distract you and get you off course. It can be something as simple as a phone call from a friend with the latest news. A photograph on social media. It could even be a piece of mail. Distractions are whatever the enemy can use to cause you to lose focus of your assignment.

You see, this is what I was on, an assignment from God. This assignment is not to be taken lightly. In the beginning, I looked at this ordeal or trial from a selfish perspective, but God began to show me that, as an intercessor, I was on assignment.

An assignment from the Father is not a task to be taken lightly. There are parameters. There are instructions. There are guidelines to follow, and God requires total and complete obedience. Is there grace? Absolutely, but if you are to get from point A to point B, you must take direction to follow the instruction to the letter, or you risk going around in circles. Let me elaborate.

The children of Israel wandered in the wilderness for forty years. Their journey should have only taken a few days on foot, but they allowed distractions to block their path and cause many of them to lose their lives in the wilderness. They murmured and complained about their circumstances.

They became rebellious. Due to their continued unbelief in God’s divine provision and protection, they were lost in the wilderness. They allowed distractions to keep them from their promise.

Once I realized that the enemy used distractions to block my path, I became a better intercessor and recognized His tactics.

Living most of my life in the South, I would see gnats a lot. They are little flying bugs that really, to me, serve no purpose other than to distract and cause irritation to me. You wave them away, and they come right back. That is how the enemy uses distractions. They irritate and get on your nerves. I learned how to use my Spiritual fly swatter, the Word of God. The Word will knock out those distractions. I began to use the Word and hit the “bullseye” in the Spirit.

The Word is your weapon. I learned to “Armor Up” and use the full armor of God to fight the enemy. God never left us unprepared. We choose not to use the weapons, or we don’t recognize the weapons because we don't know the Word. I was the latter. Although I was in the church for years, I did not know the Word, and I did not know how to apply it. However, I had a crash course over the past two years, and I was battle-tested. God prepared me. He will prepare you as well.

This is an excerpt from my book: Touching His Him-My Journey to Wholeness. I have seen lots of distractions coming after God’s people. It is time to shift our focus!!!

Scriptures to Increase Your Spiritual Muscles:

Pray without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:17

Submit yourselves to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7"

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints. Ephesians 6:10-18
