The enemy wants to take over your thinking. He desires to cause doubt and unbelief in our minds by causing us to question the one that created us.
“Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’” But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate.”
Genesis 3:1-6 ESV
Just like that he tricked Adam and Eve in the garden and he is using the same tricks today to trick us.
It normally starts with a thought that seems close to okay, but if not taken captive at the very second it was placed in our brains-it can become a seed.
“For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ. “ 2 Corinthians 10:4-5
We must engage the enemy swiftly and quickly as it relates to thoughts that he tries to plant in our mind. We don’t want to be “wishy washy” in our beliefs regarding God’s promises to us. Cast done those thoughts immediately, if not the enemy will continue to bombard you in your thoughts until he lies become your reality.
For example, you have a desire in your heart that you have been praying about for a while. You have fasted for it. You have created prayer points. You have toiled in prayer, but the time factor is making you weary. Here comes the sly fox with a lie and because you are weary you don’t cast it down immediately. Soon he comes again with another lie and before you know it doubt and unbelief have set in and you have completely thrown away the promise.
Can you believe again? Absolutely. Repent for the disbelief. Renounce the lie. Ask for forgiveness. Get up and keep pressing.
You see I have been down this road many times. I have many promises from God. Holding on to those promises, takes tenacity. Have I messed up? Absolutely. There have times that I believed I had failed God because I messed up so bad. He let me know, Mary, yes you messed up. However, your mess up will not stop my plans. You are not that powerful.
Let me encourage you today. Your momentary doubt and unbelief will not stop the plans that God has for you. They will come forth and He will redeem ALL the lost time. It will be better than before. He will give you double for your trouble.
“But the LORD’s plan stands forever; what he intends to do lasts from one generation to the next.” Psalms 33:11 CEB
“Instead of your shame there shall be a double portion; instead of dishonor they shall rejoice in their lot; therefore in their land they shall possess a double portion; they shall have everlasting joy.” Isaiah 61:7
Stay in faith. Believe God for double. Take every thought captive that does not line up with the Word of God. How? By speaking the Word, IT IS WRITTEN. When the enemy comes with a lie, declare the Word. Will it be easy? No, not at first. However, it will be worth it. As I said earlier, you must have tenacity in this battle. It is a war for your mind and the enemy wants to take no prisoners. Guess what? The battle is not yours it belongs to the Lord. Use your weapons, but know this-You have already won.
